#shorts A sea lion leapt out of a marine to attack a dog. Luckily, the pet's quick-thinking owner managed to pull her pet to safety.
The woman, Barbara Romano, was getting ready to board a boat at the Cabrillo Way Marina, San Pedro, California, when her silver labrador Fisher jumped onto the dock.
"Fisher saw the sea lion from a couple of hundred feet away and jumped out of the boat and started barking at it. I'm sure the sea lion lunged at us that way because Fisher kept barking at him and provoking him", Romano said.
Dramatic footage shows the 21-year-old as she tried to pull her eight-month-old dog back towards her vessel when the sea lion shot out of the water.
The woman barely managed to grab Fishers collar and pull him away from the attacking marine animals jaws as it gnashed its teeth just inches away from them both.
Romano said: When I went to grab Fisher, I didn't realise how close the sea lion got to us until I saw the video. I was stunned because I see many sea lions all the time and never thought they would get so close by lunging at us. This particular sea lion is a little aggressive sometimes when wandering around the marina because it knows it can get some fresh fish off the boats".
Her pet was very scared after what happened on the dock. The dog's owner said: "Fisher was definitely startled after the incident because he would not leave my side, and I put him inside the cabin until we completely left the marina. That was the only time it lunged at us but he just kept swimming around us popping up in different areas and sort of messing with Fisher. That sea lion is no stranger to this marina. He likes to swim around the nearby boats in hopes to grab some bait or fresh fish from the fishing boats".
