As a scorching heatwave gripped Boston, a family of geese struggled to find relief, panting on a busy sidewalk while passersby snapped photos. During the high temperatures on June 20, 2024, local petsitter Julie Nashawaty became an unexpected hero when she relieved the thirsty geese.
On her way between clients, Julie noticed the distressed geese desperately seeking shade and moisture on the sizzling pavement. While most people walked around and observed the suffering birds, Julie ducked into a nearby business, asking for a bowl to fill with water.
Julie filled a plate with water from her bottle and placed it near the geese. The grateful birds rushed over and began drinking eagerly. Inspired by Julie's compassion, a woman from the business fetched a vase full of water to provide further relief.
