In a heartwarming incident that unfolded in Purvis, Mississippi, a dog named Baby experienced a perilous adventure during a devastating flood in May 2022. The owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, recounted the miraculous rescue that has since strengthened their bond with their beloved four-legged companion.
"Last summer, while I was gone to work, a family member accidentally let my dog, Baby, a then 5yr old Chiwheenie out of the house when they dropped off some mail," said the owner, recalling the fateful day. Unbeknownst to anyone, a severe storm had ravaged the area the previous day, causing the creek between the owner's house and their parent's house to overflow its banks.
"I came home and knew something was bad wrong when Baby didn't meet me at the door," the owner expressed concern. Fear gripped their heart as they went in search of their furry friend. Traversing the flooded surroundings, the owner noticed that the creek had surged to an unprecedented level. But they remained determined to find Baby.
"I had my phone out to record because I was about to video myself attempting to wade across the flood in my boots," the owner explained, highlighting their initial intention to document the rescue. Suddenly, their focus shifted when they spotted Baby in a perilous situation. "Suddenly I spotted Baby in a tree, downstream of the road!" the owner exclaimed with relief.
It became apparent that earlier in the day, Baby had tried to follow the owner's father's vehicle across the flooded creek, only to be swept away by the rushing water. "Apparently, she had tried to follow my dad's vehicle across the flooded creek earlier in the day and been washed downstream and managed to scramble up into a tree as the water washed her around behind it," the owner described Baby's harrowing journey.
Filled with concern for their furry companion, the owner's primary goal became rescuing Baby rather than capturing the perfect video. "It's not a perfect video because I was more worried about rescuing her than filming, but somehow I still managed to capture a glimpse of it and her happy cries," the owner explained.
Once the owner reached Baby, relief washed over them. "Once we were headed to safety I remembered the camera and managed to get a good view of her cold wet little face as I carried her home," the owner shared, grateful for the moment captured on camera.
