Ronnie Spector was the lead singer of the most famous girl group of the 60s: The Ronettes. Her songs were inspired by her hard childhood when she had to go through a lot of bullying because of being a mixed child. Her band, the Ronettes, consisted of two other members: her older sister Estelle, and her cousin Nedra Talley Ross. After playing in several small gigs all across New York City, Ronnie Spector and her band signed with Colpix Records in 1961. However, it was not until working with Phil Spector that the girl group got to experience the real taste of success. Phil Spector was a talented producer, who immediately claimed the right of becoming the sole manager and producer of the Ronettes after hearing them perform for once. This period was the most successful one for the Ronettes, as they got to perform with the Beatles and travel all around the globe with their concerts. However, by the end of 1966, the career of Phil Spector started to decline. And this was one of the main reasons why Ronnie Spector and her bandmates decided to disband.
In 1968, Ronnie Spector and Phil got married as they have fallen in love while working with each other. However, soon enough Ronnie realized that marrying Phill was one of the biggest mistakes of her life. He was overly protective and demonstrated very eccentric behavior. Phil went far enough to make an inflatable version of himself so that Ronnie would have him in the front seat of her car all the time. Additionally, he locked her up in his mansion by taking away her shoes and even dared to gift her the oddest Christmas present: twins. Yes, you read it right! He adopted twins without the permission of Ronnie.
After so many struggles and sufferings, Ronnie Spector was able to escape with the help of her mother back in 1972.
