Pence’s foray into politics began with two unsuccessful runs for Congress in 1988 and 1990. Undeterred, he hosted a conservative talk radio show, "The Mike Pence Show," from 1992 to 1999, where he honed his communication skills and reinforced his conservative credentials. His persistence paid off when he was elected to the U.S.

House of Representatives in 2000, representing Indiana's 2nd and later 6th congressional districts. During his tenure in Congress, Pence was known for his staunch conservative stance on social issues, limited government, and fiscal responsibility. He was a member of the House Republican leadership and chaired the Republican Study Committee, which pushed for conservative legislation.

In 2012, Pence transitioned to executive leadership, becoming the Governor of Indiana. His governorship was marked by significant legislative achievements and controversies. He championed tax cuts, education reform, and job creation. However, his signing of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act in 2015 sparked national controversy, with critics arguing it allowed discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals. This backlash led to amendments aimed at clarifying the law.

Despite intense pressure from Trump and his supporters, Pence upheld his duty, affirming Joe Biden's victory. This decision led to a significant rift between Pence and Trump, culminating in a dramatic end to their political alliance and altering Pence's standing within the Republican Party.
