But who is Linda Vaughn? Linda Vaughn was born in Dalton, Georgia during the days of the segregated South. Initially growing up in comfortable surroundings, her family’s fate changed when her parents divorced and she was raised by a single mother along with her siblings.
This hardship, however, didn’t discourage Linda Vaughn from pursuing her dreams. From a young age, thanks to her father, she developed an interest in watching car racing – which was also one of the most popular sports in the South.
As a teen, she met many prominent racers and began learning how to race cars herself. She went to college to study dental hygiene but she also knew, deep down, that she wanted to pursue a career on the race track.
She also realized how beautiful she was as she grew older. She started to get more attention from the boys at school and she knew she could use her sex appeal for her career. She decided to try her luck at being a promotional model.
While this was already an established profession on the race track, grid girls were unknown and were soon forgotten about. Linda Vaughn decided to put an end to this. She wanted to bring dignity to this profession and she wanted to become well-known.
And that’s exactly what happened. Chances are if you bought anything from Hurst a few decades ago – it might have been because Linda Vaughn convinced you to do so. Her charisma and charm is still remembered by racing fans today.
