For example, did you know that The Lone Ranger began as a radio series? The radio series was introduced in the early 1930s before being adapted into a series of books. The popularity of the radio series and the books it inspired is what led to the TV series.

The Lone Ranger was also supposed to be an ideal character for others to aspire to imitate. As such, writer Fran Striker and producer George Trendle came up with a few stringent guidelines that the character should follow. For instance, even though he roamed the Wild West you never saw the Lone Ranger smoke or drink in a local saloon.

There’s also no consensus on whom The Lone Ranger was based on. However, there’s a belief that it was based on a Texas Ranger named Captain John R. Hughes. There's also a belief that Bass Reeves, a prominent black deputy, was the inspiration for the Lone Ranger.

The TV show was one of the most famous series in the US during its run. It ran from 1949 to 1957. The show was filmed in black and white with the final season being filmed in color. The Lone Ranger was played by Clayton Moore and later by John Hart.
