But sadly, not even Wonder Woman’s superhuman abilities could prepare Carter for the tragedies she has faced in her life.
In the past 20 plus years, Lynda has gone through some pretty tough times that have taken a heavy toll on her.

In 2003, Lynda’s mother, Jean was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at age 79. The next ten years were going to be one of the most trying periods of Lynda’s life. Her mother experienced an accident in her home that made it unsafe for her to live alone so, she had to be moved into a facility to get the care and attention she needed. Jean passed in 2013 at age 89.

Carter has also experienced some personal struggles of her own. The icon has battled alcoholism for years. Although now in recovery, she says her alcohol addiction caused her to pull away from her family. She is now more open to talking about her alcohol addiction to encourage others battling alcoholism to do the same.

The most recent tragedy that hit Lynda Carter’s household was the death of her husband of 37 years, Robert Altman. He died on February 3, 2021, from a rare blood cancer. His death hit Lynda especially hard as she disclosed in a recent interview that she felt empty without him. Lynda and Robert had two grown children together.

Amidst all of her challenges, one remarkable thing about Lynda Carter is her tenacity and passion to persevere. She recently released a song titled, Human and Divine. The song is a tribute to the love she and her late husband shared. Lynda also made a cameo in the 2020 movie, Wonder Woman 1984 as the character, Asteria.
