Did you know that Fred Astaire was pushed into show business at the behest of his mother and that he was reluctant to enter into his creative partnership with Ginger Rogers? Fred Astaire was born to German immigrants at the turn of the 20th century. They lived in Omaha, Nebraska, and his father worked as a meager brewer. Fred’s mother had dreams of turning her family into stars, and she pushed Fred’s older sister into show business as a dancer. Fred followed suit, playing second fiddle to his sister during vaudeville routines. By their teens, they were huge successes that were raking in hundreds of dollars a week, which would be thousands in today’s dollars.
