Robert Z’Dar sadly left us too soon. He died in 2015 from a cardiac arrest at the age of 64. He left behind an incredible body of work with over 100 film credits to his name. Maniac Cop was his breakthrough role that he was best known for. But there were other great roles in films ranging from Tango & Cash to Samurai Cop.

Robert Z’Dar was born on June 3, 1950, in Chicago. He was born with an enlarged jawline which led to his distinctive appearance. He began his acting career in the 1980s, and he continued to work till his death. Actually, there were quite a few films released posthumously – including a 2020 release!

He graduated from the University of Arizona with a BFA and started his career as a police officer in his native Chicago! He later performed in a band, wrote jingles for commercials, and was even a Chippendales dancer!

But he knew he was destined for something bigger. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. His debut came with the 1985 film Hellhole. He followed this up with a slew of B-movies throughout the remainder of the decade. His big break came when he played the lead role in Maniac Cop and its two sequels.

He became a staple of B-movies and gained a reputation as a passionate actor no matter what the role. For fans of B-movies, Robert Z’Dar is someone whose career went unmatched. He was a prolific actor who always stole the show in every film.
