But how did Jerry Lee Lewis become the American music icon that we now know him as? An even better question to ponder is, will he go to Heaven? Strangely, he doesn’t think so!
Jerry Lee Lewis was born on September 29, 1935, in Ferriday, Louisiana. He developed an interest in music at a young age and his family supported his passion. He spent his childhood studying the piano as well as honing his singing skills.
It wasn’t long until Jerry Lee Lewis began performing live. By the mid-1950s, he was recording music and soon became one of rock and roll music’s biggest stars. Before he knew it, he was a major star and he’s remained one ever since.
But his life hasn’t been without struggles and controversies. He got married at a young age – which was rather common in those days. But what really struck a nerve among the public was that he married his first cousin once removed, with whom there was a large age gap.
He also had his struggles with drug use. Like many rock stars, these consumed his life and could have led to his downfall. He had a few troubled marriages and sadly, lost two of his children.
Not to mention, he’s even had the IRS come after him. He also had his troubles with fellow rock star Elvis Presley. His many troubles have made him think that he might not make it to heaven. And while rock is often considered the Devil’s music, Jerry Lee Lewis does have strong religious convictions…
