The show's first season, which premiered in September of 1976, was a huge success. But when fans got to know that their beloved Farrah Fawcett wouldn't be returning to the show, lots of questions filled the air. A lot of possible factors were raised in an attempt to identify why she left. One of the established reasons was money-related. It turned out that she wanted to share in the monetary success of the show, but the production company couldn't see eye to eye with her on the matter. Another likely factor was attributed to how she felt being more popular than her fellow lead stars. Though there wasn't any moment where her fellow angels changed toward her, she just felt uncomfortable being on the receiving end of all the attention and fan mail.
According to one of her fellow angels, Fawcett was very passionate about being an actress and producing her own movies. No wonder she cofounded Fawcett-Majors Productions in order to create and direct their own films. But there was something coming at her she didn't perceive. The production company that produced Charlie's Angels sued her for breaching the contract she signed while on the show. She was hit with a breach of contract lawsuit by producers in the amount of $7 million, which she couldn't fight. Her career suffered a dip, but she made a comeback. She was later cast in a number of high-profile roles, such as the TV movie adaptation of "Extremities" in 1986, "Small Sacrifices" in 1989, and a recurring role in "The Guardian," for which she was nominated for an Emmy.
