Claudine Auger was born in Nazi-occupied France and grew up in the wake of World War II. The young girl studied acting before becoming a model during her teenage years. She represented her country as Miss France at Miss World 1958, winning runner-up. Following this, the burgeoning star received her first credited role in a feature film with 1960’s Terrain Vague.

Following Claudine’s appearance in Terrain Vague, it wasn’t long before she made her star-making turn in the James Bond film Thunderball. The film was released in 1965, and Claudine appeared as the character of Domino Vitali. The character had to be rewritten from the original novel in order to accommodate the fact that Claudine was French. The character was a success with audiences, being considered to be the strongest Bond girl at that point in the series.
Although Claudine’s memorable turn in Thunderball didn’t make her a Hollywood star, it made her a pretty big deal in Europe and the United Kingdom. Claudine continued acting for a few decades in the international film industry before retiring from acting altogether in 1997. Although Claudine is most fondly remembered for the role of Domino Vitali, she performed in nearly 100 roles during her long career.
