Actress Bern Nadette Stanis was born on the 22nd of December, 1953, in New York – the daughter of immigrants from the West Indies. From a young age, people took notice of her beauty, and she won the title of Miss Brooklyn in the Miss Black America pageant. She studied at the Julliard school following her graduation from high school.
Despite not acting before, she was eager to land the role of Thelma Evans in an upcoming sitcom about a black family trying to make ends meet while living on Chicago’s south side. She recalls coming home one day and finding out the news from her mother that she won the role!
And she never looked back since then. Bern Nadette Stanis played Thelma Evans from 1974 to 1979 and became one of the biggest TV stars from the role. After the show ended, she continued to make guest appearances on some of the most popular TV shows of the time.
But what has she been doing since the 1970s? Did she continue her acting career? And what have been her achievements outside of her acting career? The truth is: she hasn’t slowed down at all and continues to entertain fans to this day!
