Regardless, it’s safe to say that he lived an incredible life! He was an accomplished comic performer in his time and was best known for his role as Barney Fife in The Andy Griffith Show.
He was respected among his colleagues and adored by his fans. His family also realized his genius and experienced much of the joy that audiences also felt from Don’s performances.
However, it was quite a struggle for Don Knotts to achieve what he did. His own childhood wasn’t the easiest. His desire to become a successful actor wasn’t the smoothest journey.
His father suffered from a mental illness, and Don Knotts was often subjected to horrendous violence during his youth. Much of his early life involved lots of sadness – which is perhaps why he was so keen on bringing happiness to the world.
It took him a while to achieve success on American television. Much of his early career involved live performances – including performing as a ventriloquist and a comedian. But he would eventually become one of America’s biggest stars.
His talent was also passed down to his daughter Karen who is an accomplished actress in her own right. She also wrote a book about her father’s incredible life and career. In fact, one of her most fond memories of her father is actually what he did on his deathbed!
