It followed a wagon train as it slowly made its way in the Old West from Missouri to California. Its two stars, at least for the first half of the series, were Ward Bond and Robert Horton. Bond played wagon master, Major Seth Adams, and Horton played the scout, Flint McCullough. And while the two notably shared excellent on-screen chemistry, off screen they hated each other. There has been speculation as to why they hated each other, and we’re going to explore some of the supposed reasons in this video. We take a look at how fan mail might have been a part of it, and what Ward Bond used to do to Horton because of their feud. We also talk about how Horton didn’t get along with the writing staff, and how he credited himself with writing half the show.
We also talk about how both of these men left the show before it ended, and had to be replaced by other actors. Though they left for decidedly different reasons. Bond died suddenly before filming of the fifth season could begin. This left the producers in a bind, but they managed to keep the show going. And Horton left in good health, but for other reasons. So check out this video out today if you’re a fan of Wagon Train, to find out some behind-the-scenes info about these two great actors that you might not know about.
