Kaley Cucuo was a central member of the cast from the beginning as Penny. She brought charm and sass to the role, overcoming issues like injuries and failed relationships.
Mayim Bialik worked in sitcoms since she was a teenager, and The Big Bang Theory referenced her work on Blossom before she even joined the cast. She eventually became Sheldon’s girlfriend Amy, and her background in neuroscience helped her play the role. Melissa Rouch showed off her talent by playing a character who couldn’t be more different than her. Bernadette’s squeaky voice was an invention inspired by her mother. Putting it on wasn’t as easy as taking on a new, sassier personality, but she managed to make it work.
Howard’s mom is one of a few memorable TV characters who are heard but never seen. The actress who portrayed her, Carol Ann Susi, died in 2014. The writers took her character off the show but fit in several tributes, including pictures and unseen children. These talented cast members earned hefty paychecks, but some of the ones who joined in later seasons didn’t get as big of a piece of the pie. It took voluntary pay cuts to even things out.
Many fans may also not realize how different the original pilot for The Big Bang Theory was. It was missing several important characters, and many of them looked and acted completely different. Changing it to the version everyone loved couldn’t have been a better call.
