Join Facts Verse as we discuss Robert Cummings tragic downfall. His tale, unfortunately, is a pretty familiar one. While at one point he seemed to be on top of the world, drugs and questionable decisions led to his wealth, riches, fame, relationships, and reputation being dashed to pieces.

He was born Charles Clarence Robert Orville Cummings on June 9, 1910, in Joplin, Missouri, and was best known for his roles in 1940s comedy films like Princess O'Rourke and The Devil and Miss Jane. He also shined in more dramatic offerings such as Alfred Hitchcock's Saboteur and Dial M For Murder.

On the television screen, Robert was best known for the shows My Living Doll, Love That Bob, My Hero, and The Bob Cummings Show.

Over his 7-decade acting career, Cummings received a great deal of praise for his witty delivery and ability to make us laugh. He was nominated for five Primetime Emmy Awards and won the Primetime Emmy for Best Actor in a Single Performance in 1955.

Robert's latter years in the spotlight saw him fall from grace in an almost theatrical way. He went from being one of the most handsome, highest-paid, and sought-after Hollywood stars in the 40s and 50s to being hopelessly addicted to methamphetamine and finding himself in a straitjacket in 1965.

Cummings discovered his love for this life-sucking stimulant drug in 1954, the same year that he appeared in Dial M for Murder. He was introduced to it by a now-infamous doctor who has earned the nickname Dr. Feelgood. At first, he didn't know that the 'vitamin' injections that he had been taking had actually been this high-powered drug, but eventually, he fell into a full-fledged addiction. In the process, he lost almost everything.
