Romy Schneider was born into a family of actors and made her debut on the screen at the age of only 15. It would be at the age of 17 that Romy would receive the role that went on to make her a star, that being the role of Empress Elisabeth of Austria in the film Sissi. Romy went on to reprise the role in that film’s two sequels. She went on to claim that she enjoyed the attention she got as a result of the role at the time, but later felt pigeonholed into similar parts. Because of this, the actress made some significant attempts to shed her innocent demeanor during her adult years.

Romy was successful in her attempts to be taken more seriously as an actress after being typecast as a result of her role in Sissi. At the time of Romy’s tragic death, she was one of the most popular and well-respected actresses in France. Sadly, this success wouldn’t be enough to make up for her disastrous personal life.
