King of Queens was a spinoff of the sitcom juggernaut Everybody Loves Raymond. It made a name for itself and turned its stars Kevin James and Leah Remini into household names. Jerry Stiller almost didn’t play its other star, Carrie’s handful of a father Arthur. Their first choice was Jack Carter, but he soon showed how much of a better fit he was for the part.
They were the key characters, and their exploits kept the show alive, but what about all the minor characters they encountered? There were a few that seemed to come and go with no explanation
Why did the Heffernan’s scheming neighbors disappear after they got caught and then suddenly reappear like nothing happened? Why wasn’t Doug’s sister mentioned until season three? What happened to Carrie’s half-sister? Whatever happened to Richie?
Pay close attention and you’ll notice that the same actors didn’t always play characters who stayed around. Carrie had two different bosses who were separate characters both played by Victor Raider-Wexlert. Arthur’s love interest was played by Grace Zabriskie in a single episode and then by Jerry’s real-life wife Anne Marea. Character details didn’t stay consistent either. Spence eats peanut MnMs in the first season and then gets teased for his peanut allergy later.
Speaking of Spencer, the creators of King of Queens were major jokesters. They liked to prank the viewers by throwing in details to see if anyone would notice. What about the episode where everyone else enjoys Doug’s birthday and he stays completely still for three minutes straight?
