The show was created by Richard Hooker who himself was a surgeon and was the inspiration behind the hit show MASH. His talents shone once again with Trapper John MD. But the show’s success is due to the excellent cast.

Pernell Roberts played the lead role of Dr. “Trapper” John McIntyre on the show. He first gained major fame with his role as Adam Cartwright on Bonanza. But it was this show that gained him further recognition and was the one he enjoyed the most.
Charles Seibert also won fame with his role on the show. He had focused mainly on theater roles before becoming a star on Trapper John MD.
Mary McCarty began her acting career as a child and had a prolific career in stage and television. Her role on Trapper John MD is what made her a major star.
Simon Scott was one of America’s most prolific television actors and became a huge star with his role on Trapper John MD. He also had a few great roles working in cinema.
Madge Sinclair also won acclaim with her role on Trapper John MD. Her other great TV roles included work in shows such as Roots. She was known most for her roles in the film as well including Coming To America.
