If you’re a fan of the legendary sitcom, The Brady Bunch, then by default you are a fan of their casting choices. After all, it’s probably hard to picture anyone but Robert Reed and Florence Henderson as Mike and Carol Brady. And it’s hard to imagine anyone but Susan Olsen playing Cindy. These actors did such a great job with the characters that their images (and voices!) are embedded into how we picture The Brady Bunch. And yet, like any other Hollywood production, there was a large and tedious casting process before these talented actors got their parts. And, unsurprisingly, that means there were many other actors who were considered to play these roles. We’ll also take a long at the crazy lengths creator Sherwood Schwartz had to go in order to cast child actors who he felt could hold up during the rigorous shooting process. Schwartz knew that since the brady kids were such a huge part of the show, casting the right child actors would be the only way for it to succeed. Not only did he have to find child actors who were talented, looked good on camera, and could say their lines convincingly, but he also had to find ones who could handle how distracting (and sometimes boring!) life on set can be.
