Richie Valens, born Richard Steven Valenzuala, passed away at just 17. With two big hits in ‘La Bamba’ and ‘Donna’, the Mexican singer-songwriter was on his way to superstardom when his life was cut short. Valens passed away on the same day as a couple of other well-known musicians of the 1950s on what has come to be known as ‘the Day the Music Died.’
The guitarist and singer Buddy Holly died that same day, aged 22. Leaving behind a child and pregnant wife, the singer’s death was both a personal and musical tragedy. His music has gone on to inspire several famous acts, including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Elton John.
Johnny Ace was a hit-writing, lady-loving musician who met his end at the end of his own revolver when he was just 25 years old. But at the height of his fame, what was it that led to Ace’s tragic death?
Jiles Richardson, known to fans and friends alike as the Big Bopper, was the third musical casualty of ‘the Day the Music Died.’ But his body was found some distance from the others. Could there be more to the incident than we knew at the time?
All of their stories are tales of tragedy and mystery.
