Elvis’ manager wasn’t too keen on his most profitable client being sent overseas and later claimed that the singer being drafted into the United States Army ended up costing the two of them nearly half of a million dollars. When adjusted for inflation, that sum becomes exponentially larger. Still, Elvis’ time in service ended up having a positive effect on his career and turned him from a deviant figure into a positive role model in the eyes of much of the conservative public.
Elvis ended up serving in the United States Army from early 1958 until mid-1960, during which time he was stationed in Germany. Elvis saw a bit of active duty, though his time in the army wasn’t filled with as much action as some of his fans like to claim.
