Tina Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939, in Brownsville, Tennessee. Her father oversaw sharecroppers and much of her childhood involved her having to pick cotton on a plantation! Her beginnings would make one think it was unlikely that she would become a huge star one day.

As a young child, Tina Turner fell in love with music and began participating in her church’s choir. Her love for music couldn’t be stopped and she knew that despite her humble background she was destined for greatness.
Meanwhile, as young Annie Mae Bullock was honing her skills before she would become Tina Turner, there was another man who was also working on becoming a huge music star. Ike Turner was a talented singer and musician and his music was having a huge impact on country.
His talent was recognized by stars such as BB King and his music was so popular that he managed to fight against segregation as both white and black youth loved his music. It wasn’t long until Ike Turner became a huge star.
And by the time he did, one of his biggest fans was Anna Mae Bullock. Anna Mae Bullock wanted to sing with Ike Turner and he gave her the opportunity to sing with him and his band. It was Ike Turner, who made Anna Mae Bullock into Tina Turner.
The story couldn’t have been more perfect and Ike and Tina Turner became one of the hottest duos in the music industry.
