Foxx rose to prominence in the 1950s and 1960s with his unique style of humor, often pushing boundaries with his explicit and risqué jokes. He became a trailblazer in breaking down racial barriers, paving the way for future African American comedians. His groundbreaking comedy album, "Laff of the Party," released in 1956, further solidified his status as a comedic force to be reckoned with.

However, it was Foxx's role as Fred G. Sanford in the television series "Sanford and Son" which made him a major star all over the country. Sanford and Son ran throughout most of the 70s and even had a few spinoffs. The show projected Foxx's comedic genius and earned him a Golden Globe nomination. His portrayal of the cantankerous but lovable junk dealer became an iconic character in American television history.

Despite his success, Redd Foxx faced financial challenges throughout his life, frequently contending with tax problems and bankruptcy. These difficulties brought an added dimension to his otherwise distinguished career. Foxx persisted in his work in the entertainment field, appearing in movies and TV shows, while also keeping a packed stand-up comedy agenda.

Tragically, Redd Foxx's life came to an untimely end on October 11, 1991. He suffered a heart attack while performing on the set of "The Royal Family," a sitcom in which he played the lead role. Despite immediate medical attention, Foxx passed away at the age of 68. His death was a shock to the entertainment world, and it underscored the toll that a lifetime of hard work and financial stress can take on an individual.
