Phil’s first brush with tragedy came when his father passed away during the star’s young adulthood. At the time, Phil was just starting to make a name for himself in the music industry. The burgeoning star’s pursuit of fame made it so that he didn’t get to spend any time with his father during the latter’s final days. Phil married his first wife in 1975, the same year that he joined the band, Genesis. Phil was more focused on his work with Genesis than he was on his marriage, and this didn’t change once first wife Andrea Bertorelli gave birth to Phil’s first son, Simon.
