Prince Philip was nearing 100 years old at the time of his death, having been married to Queen Elizabeth II for well over half of a century. Tanya Roberts died from sepsis as a result of a urinary tract infection. Meanwhile, cult comedian Norm Macdonald kept his cancer diagnosis a secret as he silently battled, eventually succumbing in September.
Other celebrity figures that passed away in 2021 include The Mary Tyler Moore Show veterans Cloris Leachman and Ed Asner. They both passed away in their 90s, with Cloris dying of a stroke and Ed dying of natural causes. Other television stars that passed away in 2021 include Jessica Walter and Larry King, with Jessica being known for her time on Arrested Development and Larry King for Larry King Live.
Not all of the celebrity deaths that occurred in 2021 drew much sympathy. Convicted murderer and acclaimed pop producer Phil Spector passed away in 2021, over a decade into his prison sentence.
