What many hungry fans forget is that he was a real person. He grew up poor and had to learn to cook to feed his family. What they also may not know is that the real-life Colonel Sanders faked his military career. He lied about his age to get into the army before being honorably discharged years later. He tried several jobs after that, including a railwayman and a lawyer, but his temper always got in the way. He eventually found a way to use his skills to help others while feeding them out of the gas station he lived in.
His meals were so popular that the community came in droves. Once he found out how to use a pressure cooker and perfected his recipe of 11 herbs and spices, there was no stopping him. He was made an honorary Colonel by the state of Kentucky, and that’s when he took on his memorable image. He started wearing white suits and dyed his beard. He had hundreds more franchises by the time he sold the company. He traveled around to visit them but didn’t like what he tasted. He even created his own competitor by founding the Claudia Sanders House.
