Sid Haig was born Sidney Eddie Mosesian on July 14, 1939, in Fresno, California. He came from an Armenian-American family and was the son of an electrician. He grew rather tall at a young age and this affected his motor skills and made it hard for him to move at times. One would think this would be a huge hindrance to a potential acting career.

But he decided to pursue an entertainment career very early on in his life. He performed as a dancer at local variety shows and as he grew older, he knew he wanted to pursue acting. As it turns out, he couldn’t have started his acting career at a better time.
He came of age in the 1960s when exploitation films were all the craze and he soon became a staple of director Jack Hill’s films – especially coming to prominence with the film Spider Baby. As the 1970s approached, he went from having small roles to having larger roles in exploitation films – often playing the ‘heavy’ character such as Omar in Coffy and Hays in Foxy Brown.
He went from being the star of exploitation films to becoming a star in many blaxploitation films despite the fact that he was often a supporting character. He loved his work and it brought him prominence and the respect of his peers.
But something was missing and Sid Haig soon became disheartened with his work. He felt he was being typecast and wanted to look for something more in life. But as an actor becomes older, his choices become even more scarce.
He was brought back to prominence in a small cameo in Quentin Tarantino’s film Jackie Brown which was released in 1997. But he was in his 50s at this time and he must have felt there was nothing more for him to explore.
Then, after a six-year hiatus – his life changed when a former rockstar approached Sid Haig with the role of a lifetime.
