Dolly quit The Porter Wagoner Show in 1974, and the two managed to remain on friendly terms for a number of years before Dolly’s success became too much for her jealous former employer to deal with. By the end of the 1970s, Porter had made the decision to sue Dolly, believing that he was the main reason that she had become a superstar.
Understandably, Dolly was upset at the lawsuit being hurled at her by the man that she had formerly trusted. She and Porter had been incredibly close, and there were even rumors that the two were involved in an affair during the filming of the show.
