The I Love Lucy cast members that we’ll be taking a look at in this video include Joe and Mike Mayer, Richard and Ronald Simmons, Sammy Ogg, Keith Thibodeaux, and Barbara Eden. Joe and Mike Mayer are twins, and they comprised one of the sets of twins that was utilized to portray the infant character of Ricky Jr. in the series. There were two different sets of twins used to portray the character of Ricky Jr. over the course of I Love Lucy’s run, with the other pair of twins being Richard and Ronald Simmons. Joe and Mike Mayer are more notable because they appeared in more episodes.
Child labor laws dictated that Ricky Jr. be played by twins as a baby so that the infant performers didn’t have to stay for too long in front of the cameras. When Ricky Jr. was older, Desi Arnaz found a new child performer to play him. This child performer was Keith Thibodeaux. Keith is the former child star that is most closely associated with the role of Ricky Jr. as the character began appearing more after Keith was cast to play him.
Sammy Ogg is another former child performer that appeared in I Love Lucy early on in his career. Meanwhile, Barbara Eden made her television debut on the series years before starring in I Dream of Jeannie. Join Facts Verse as we explore the only I Love Lucy cast members still alive today!
