The Emmys have been giving TV fans plenty of memorable moments over 75 years on the air. They decided to celebrate their longevity by looking to the past. The casts of several shows of the past returned to present awards on a stage decked out in honor of their work. Fans of Martin, Ally McBeal, Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, Saturday Night Live, and more got a wonderful surprise. Seeing the casts together again behind replicas of their former sets almost felt like watching them act together again.
They even honored classics without any surviving cast members. Natasha Lyonne, Anthony Anderson, and Tracee Ellis Ross replicated the famous candy conveyor belt scene from I Love Lucy. It combined new and old to show how far TV has come. The reunions weren’t all fun and games, though. The cast of All in the Family took time to address the recent death of the show’s creator Norman Leer. Plans for a Friends reunion were shelved because the pain from Matthew Perry’s death was too fresh.
One of the most anticipated reunions was that of the Cheers cast. The beloved show was a staple of TV for years. Seeing the cast all together again in a replica of the show’s famous bar was a thrill for fans. There was at least one confusing thing about this part of the event. Wasn’t it supposed to be a full-cast reunion? Why were some of the members not there for the celebration?
