Both Buddy Ebsen and Nancy Kulp were naval officers long before taking their respective roles on The Beverly Hillbillies. By the time they were cast on the show, both figures had become incredibly outspoken politically. Whereas Buddy was a conservative Republican, Nancy was a liberal Democrat. Over the course of the show’s production, the two got into numerous arguments.
