Susan Dey began her modeling career upon graduating from high school. It wasn’t long until she became one of the most famous teenage faces in the country. She soon realized, however, that her true talents were in acting.
It was with her debut role that she became a household name. Susan Dey was cast as Laurie Partridge in the musical sitcom The Partridge Family – which ran from 1970 to 1974. This was the show that made her a star, and she was often identified with her character.
However, when the show came to an end, she was eager to move on to other roles. She didn’t want to get typecast – which was the fate of many teenage stars of her generation. She also didn’t have the best experiences working on The Partridge Family and wanted to distance herself from the show.
She managed to continue working in television – securing a few bit parts in popular TV shows as well as landing bigger roles in TV movies. She made her comeback in the 1980s when she landed another lead role on television. She then continued to have a successful acting career in TV shows, TV movies, and feature films.
She managed to show audiences that she was more than just Laurie Partridge. She was seldom without work and soon became recognized as one of the most versatile actresses of her generation.
