Another problem that Sofia had with the role of Gloria was the audience’s perception of the character as a negative Latina stereotype. Given that Sofia had struggled for years to find work as a Latina in Hollywood and had even tried futilely to make her strong Columbian accent disappear, she took this criticism personally.
