A few major members are still alive today. Mitch Vogel has since retired from acting but keeps busy with businesses and church plays. Tim Matheson is still a prolific actor who’s currently working on the Netflix show Virgin River.
Some members of the supporting cast are also still showing off their talent. They include Vegas superstar Wayne Netwon, mental health advocate Mariette Hartley, and 60’s TV icon Marlo Thomas.
Many primary Bonanza cast members have died in the 50 years since the show’s end.
Dan Blocker’s death led to one of the first major TV characters to be killed off. His death was addressed in a spinoff movie, and the show ended soon after.
Lorne Greene played Ben Cartwright, the 2nd most popular TV father of all time. His death from pneumonia was a tragic loss for TV fans everywhere.
Pennell Roberts left the Bonanza cast because he didn’t like the way the show handled his character Adam. He returned to Broadway and other TV roles before his tragic death from cancer.
Michael Landon was the youngest member of the Cartwright family and worked heavily behind the scenes with Bonanza. His writing and directing helped make it what it was until he also died of cancer.
Smaller members of the Bonanza cast have also passed away, including Victor Sen Yung who was part of one of TV’s first interracial marriages, Ray Teal who played Sherrif Roy Coffee, David Canary who played Candy Canaday, and Guy Williams who played Will Cartwright.
