The band was formed by the Van Halen brothers, Eddie and Alex. Eddie Van Halen became one of the most prominent musicians and songwriters in the rock genre. The band became immensely popular in the 1970s and 1980s partly due to their lead singer David Lee Roth.
As a result, when David Lee Roth left the band it seemed like this would be a major setback. In many cases, this would spell the end of a band. But in came Sammy Hagar and all was well!
In fact, Sammy Hagar was a popular replacement and helped catapult the band to new heights. He served as the band’s lead singer for 11 years and then rejoined again for 2 years in the mid-2000s.
Van Halen had a career that spanned almost 5 decades. They released over 10 albums and performed across the world for a period spanning 50 years! The band is legendary, and the performers are iconic.
Eddie Van Halen and Sammy Hagar, in particular, went on to become huge stars. The two of them became huge friends.
But, nevertheless, there were issues with their relationship. Eddie Van Halen died at the age of 65 in 2020 after a long battle with throat cancer. Sammy Hagar has since come out to express a huge regret that he’s had ever since Eddie Van Halen’s death.
