She’d make fun of anything and everything without caring about who it offended. Behind her comedic facade is a tragic past. Her mother died when she was young, and her family had to move in with her abusive father. She did eventually learn to forgive him, but an experience like that never leaves. It may have affected her relationship with her first wife who tragically died of suicide. She has her own battles with depression to deal with every day.
She hasn’t been able to keep steady friendships, either. One of her closest pals, Ellen Degeners, denied ever knowing her. The reasons for her feuds are most often caused by differences of opinion. This even happened indirectly when she disagreed with Tom Selleck on gun control and got threats that made her get a bodyguard.
Her time on The View was like a school debate club where no one agreed and everyone got into shouting matches over their side of the issues. FIghts with Barbara Walters, Elisabeth Hassleback, and Bill Geddie got her kicked off. Rosie also had an on-and-off relationship with her children for some time. Her daughter Chelsea claims her mother was emotionally unavailable and kept her out of her life. That was until the birth of her latest child, an event that seemed to begin the healing process. Speaking of healing, Rosie had several health scares. They were so serious that it was a miracle she came out of them.
