Robert Young was born in 1907 in Chicago and moved around many cities throughout the United States during his childhood. He developed an interest in acting at a young age and decided to study acting following his high school graduation.
He studied at the Pasadena Playhouse and managed to find small roles in silent films. As the “talkies” became more popular he managed to find regular roles in a series of “B” movies. While many of his roles were supporting, he managed to carve out a great career in cinema and was rapidly becoming a recognized face in America.
His versatile acting experience made him perfect for television. While films required Robert Young to play a different role, television was only for those actors who could portray characters whom audiences felt a kinship with.
Robert Young was perfect for playing Dr. Marcus Welby. He managed to win over the audience’s hearts with this portrayal and he soon became a television star after completing a successful career in cinema.
But behind this seemingly perfect career, Robert Young didn’t always have the easiest life. In May 2022, Robert Young’s daughter Carol Proffitt describes the inner demons that haunted him. He struggled with many personal troubles and in retrospect, it’s incredible that he managed to fight these demons to sustain a successful acting career.
