Ronnie Spector, the famed female pop singer and frontwoman of the group The Ronettes sadly died of cancer at age 78 on January 12, 2022. She had one of the most distinct voices in the world of pop music and her body of work should be celebrated for years to come.

She formed the all-girl pop outfit The Ronettes with her older sister, Estelle Bennett and their cousin, Nedra Talley in 1957. She fronted that group while the now-disgraced, recently deceased, and convicted murderer Phil Spector produced the majority of their recordings.

The Ronettes had nine of their singles chart on the Billboard Hot 100 – five of which would become Top 40 hits. Some of their most popular songs included Baby, I Love You, The Best Part Of Breakin' Up, and Walking in the Rain.

The Ronettes only ever released one studio album, 1964s Presenting The Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica. That same year they opened for The Rolling Stones and in 1968, The Ronettes got to be the opening act for the Beatles on their 1968 United States tour.

Ronnie and Phil got married in 1968 but separated in 1972. Reportedly, she narrowly escaped that abusive marriage with her life – only being able to work up the courage to leave him with the help of her fiercely supportive mother. In 1964, Ronnie launched her solo career when she put out the single 'So Young'. The Ronettes officially broke up in 1967. Ronnie then proceeded to put out five studio albums after 1980 with the last being English Heart in 2016.

Throughout her life and musical career, Ronnie Spector endured much tragedy and often found herself caught up in a scandal. Watch this video to learn about her life and times while discovering how tragedy finally caught up with her in the end.
