On October 22, 2021, actor Peter Scolari succumbed to a two-year battle with cancer. Despite having been diagnosed previously, the actor had just recently concluded work on the second season of the series, Evil, and was optimistic that he was going to be able to fight the illness. However, it appears as if the fight was simply too much for the aging actor. After the announcement of Peter’s passing by his manager, many of his former costars came out to pay their respects.

One of the stars that came out to pay their respects for Peter was Lena Dunham, creator, and star of the HBO series Girls. Peter had appeared on the show as the father of Lena’s character, and the role had garnered Peter his first and only Emmy Award. The actor had been nominated several times previously, including three times for his work on the series Newhart during the 1980s. Bob Newhart was another of Peter’s celebrity peers that paid their respects to the actor.
The role that Peter remains best known for is his starring turn alongside a young Tom Hanks on the short-lived cult classic series Bosom Buddies. Though the series only lasted for two seasons on the ABC network, it later became a cult classic thanks to the increased notoriety of Tom Hanks after its cancellation. Peter and Tom remained great friends over the years and reunited professionally on a few occasions. One such occasion was the 2013 Broadway production Lucky Guy, and another was Tom’s directorial debut.
Although Peter never became the leading man that Tom did, he continued to work consistently over the course of his career. In addition to his turns on the series Girls and Evil, Peter could also be seen on Fox’s hit show Gotham, portraying the character of a corrupt Gotham City commissioner.
