The Andy Griffith Show's former cast members have been dwindling in recent years. Maggie Peterson, best known for her memorable role as Charlene Darling on the beloved sitcom sadly has passed away at the age of 81. According to her family, who issued a statement shortly after her death, Peterson died peacefully in her sleep on May 15, 2022. surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Maggie's health had suddenly taken a turn for the worse not long after her husband of many years Gus Mancusso passed away in 2021. Her family said that they were relieved that they were able to move her home to Colorado so that she could be closer to them in her final days.
Peterson's family also offered their sincerest thanks to all of Peterson's fans. In the statement, they expressed how she had wanted her community of fans to know just how much they meant to her especially in the last three difficult years following her husband's illness and subsequent passing.
Peterson's family said that Maggie repeatedly told them how she couldn't believe how generous all of her supporters had been during those trying times. They further expressed that her fans had made a tremendously positive impact on her life and helped her out substantially during some very troubling times leading up to her death.
