Martine Carol was born Maryse Louise Mourer on May 16th, 1920, in Saint-Mandé, France. Her father was a pharmacist, and her mother was a housewife and she came from a humble background. Nevertheless, Martine Carol had big dreams and she was interested in acting from a young age and began acting in local theater productions when she was a teenager.
In 1940, she made her film debut in the French movie "Bifur 3". Her breakthrough role came in 1948 when she played the lead role in the historical drama "Sextette.” The film was a huge success, and Carol's performance received praise from critics and audiences alike. She became a star almost overnight and went on to act in several more successful French films, including "Nana" "Lola Montès" and "Maxim's de Paris."
