Simpson attended the University of Southern California, where he played college football and won the Heisman Trophy in 1968. His extraordinary performance at USC led to his selection as the first overall pick in the 1969 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Simpson played 11 seasons in the NFL, predominantly with the Bills and later with the San Francisco 49ers. He was known for his speed, agility, and power, becoming the first player to rush for more than 2,000 yds in a single season in 1973. OJ was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 85, thus cementing his legacy as one of the most outstanding running backs in NFL history.
Beyond his sports career, Simpson pursued acting and broadcasting, appearing in movies like the "Naked Gun" series and working as a football commentator. However, his life took a dramatic turn in 1994 when he was charged with the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson his ex-wife, and her friend and possibly lover, Ronald Goldman. The trial ended in 1995 with Simpson's acquittal. To this day, it remains a controversial case and many believe that he was in fact, guilty.
In 2007, Simpson faced legal troubles again when he was arrested and later convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping. This was in Las Vegas when he accused someone of illegally possessing his own football memorabilia. He was sentenced to 33 years in prison with eligibility for parole after nine years. Simpson was granted parole and released in October 2017.
Simpson's life has been a tumultuous journey marked by extraordinary athletic achievements and significant legal controversies. Despite his contributions to football, his legacy remains overshadowed by his legal battles and the ongoing public fascination with his personal life.
