Soon into her time in California, Barbara began working as an assistant for the agent of Don Rickles. Before long, Barbara found herself face to face with the legendary comedian. Apparently, she made a strong first impression when she refused to laugh at any of his jokes.

Don was nearly 40 years old when he tied the knot with Barbara in 1965. He had been looking for the right partner for years, and Barbara proved to be a perfect choice! Although Barbara had a hard time warming up to her husband's sense of humor, she eventually came to terms with the fact that she married an insult comic. Their marriage lasted until Don’s death in 2017, after which point Barbara carried on living in their shared home until her own death in 2021. After her death, a plethora of Don’s personal items were put up for sale that she had been holding onto.
Some of the many personal items that were put up for sale after Barbara Rickles’ 2021 death include memorabilia from the Toy Story films, tuxedos Don wore during performances, and celebrity photographs with personalized ink inscriptions.
