This is the terrifying moment 'mosquito tornadoes' engulfed a city in India.
Footage shows undulating spires of the buzzing insects wirling over the Mutha River in Pune City, Maharashtra state, on February 9.
Residents have found themselves confined to their homes fearing the mosquitoes - notorious vectors of diseases like chikungunya, dengue, and malaria - would divebomb them if they go outdoors. Children have also been prohibited from visiting parks.
The phenomenon has been linked to rising water levels in Kharadi's Mula-Mutha River, which also houses a water treatment facility and a small dam.
Authorities have been trying to clear the excess water, but locals said the situation remains uncontrolled.
