By the time Melissa Gilbert was done performing the role of Laura Ingalls for all of Little House on the Prairie’s nine seasons, the actress was 19 years old and had blossomed into a beautiful young woman. It hasn’t been all that difficult for Melissa to find continued work in the entertainment industry in the years since the series came to a close, and she has even returned to intellectual property in the new millennium by portraying the character of Ma Ingalls in the Little House on the Prairie musical.
Melissa was in her 40s when she portrayed the character of Ma Ingalls in the recent Little House on the Prairie musical. She began experiencing severe back pains during the time, and later realized that she had been performing for several months with a broken back! Thankfully, she recovered shortly afterward thanks to a surgical implant. Melissa has had a few other health concerns in recent years but seems to be doing nearly as good as ever today.
