Though Lorne Greene certainly passed away with a great fondness for Bonanza and the character he played on the classic series, there was a time early on during the show's run when Lorne considered quitting. After filming only 16 episodes of the series, Lorne went to producers and said that he wasn’t satisfied with how shallow his character was being written. The producers took Lorne’s words to heart and ended up writing a script for an episode that gave some increased depth to the character of Ben Cartwright.
Lorne Greene was pleased with this new script, and he ended up becoming one of only two of the Cartwright actors to stay with Bonanza throughout all of its 14 seasons. The show remains iconic to this day, and it would be hard to imagine it without Lorne. Join Facts Verse as we explore why Lorne Greene almost quit Bonanza after 16 episodes.
