Did you know that Barry Gibb refuses to watch the recently released Bee Gees documentary and that he made a country album in 2021? The Bee Gees was a disco group comprised of three real-life brothers. With the exception of a brief period when the band broke up in the early 1970s, these brothers were inseparable throughout most of their lives. In 2020, a documentary was released by the name of The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart. The documentary featured plenty of participation from the sole surviving band member Barry Gibb, which only made it that much more surprising when the musician went on to claim that he was never going to watch it. Although Barry didn’t mind being interviewed for the project, he claims that actually sitting down and watching it would be too painful.

The three brothers comprising the Bee Gees first started playing music together in the 1950s. During the 1960s, they rose to prominence as a Beatles-esque pop group. In the early 1970s, the brothers feuded. The band got back together in 1975, and the reformation came with a change in sound. Now, the Bee Gees was a disco group. With its new sound, the Bee Gees found more success than ever before. The band became the face of disco when it soundtracked 1978’s Saturday Night Fever, yielding the hit “Stayin’ Alive”.

The Bee Gees remained a group until the first member’s death in 2002. The first member of the group to pass was Maurice, and Robin followed in 2012. After Robin’s death, Barry suffered a panic attack. Today, he is still shaken up about the loss. Join Facts Verse as the last surviving Bee Gee Barry Gibb speaks out on losing his brothers.
